Where There's Hope
They say things come in three's. My two yr. old son, Scott, had just been diagnosed with autism. He had stopped talking or eating and no longer responded to his name after his last set of vaccinations. Now three months pregnant, there was no heartbeat and I was in the recovery room. As I was getting ready to leave my doctor asked if I would go see a friend of his who was a heart specialist, he was concerned about some of the readings they had taken while I was there. Sure, no problem. I was 44 yrs. old and considering what I had gone through lately, it was probably just stress. I have always been healthy, strong and athletic. I have been a firefighter, driven race cars and loved to compete.
Dr. Chang-Sing was looking at his clipboard, the floor.....anywhere but my face. He had the results of my ecocardiogram, a moving picture of my heart. "You have dilated Cardiomyopathy. The left ventricle of your heart, the side that pumps out the oxygenated blood, is damaged and at only 25% of it's capapcity. We don't know why. In two years or less, your heart will wear out and stop. Congestive Heart Failure.
We can only hope a transplant will be available."
